Roast of mayors Saturday

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA), Clarke County Chapter of the Alabama Democratic Conference, Clarke County Voters League and Clarke County New South Coalition are jointly sponsoring "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors' this Saturday, May 3, in Jackson.

The event will take place at H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House. Social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the "roasting" at 7 p.m. U.S. Congressman Artur Davis will serve as the Toastmaster.

SWAIA President Dr. O.L. Hubert invites all persons currently holding political offices, regardless of party affiliation, organizations, churches, social/civic clubs, students, education institution workers, sororities/fraternities, professional organizations, business managers, health care workers/providers and all other interest parties to attend. Admission is $5 per person.

Special invited guests include the Rev. Dr. Howard Johnson and U.S. congressman Jo Bonner. Color Guard services will be performed by the Army JROTC Southern Choctaw County High School Unit, under the direction of 1st Sgt. Houston Cunningham.

The SWAIA is a nonprofit organization, which states its mission as being committed to promoting community unity and improving the quality of life for individuals in Southwest Alabama from a holistic perspective; mentally, physically, spiritually, economically and educationally. Issues it sees as important are those relating to voters enpowerment, diversity, equality, justice, legal readiness, quality health/pharmaceutical care services as well as health care disparities.
