Lady Gators headed to state tourney
Clarke Prep to play Glenwood in opening round at Lagoon

The Clarke Prep School Lady Gators softball team closed out the regular season last Friday by sweeping Cottage Hill in a double header in Mobile.

In the final match CPS won 9- 3.

Tess Ackerman went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Anna Hicks went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Kristin Schultz was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Corrie Allen went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Stephanie Sales went 1- for-2 with an RBI. Jessica McKinley went 2-for-5. Courtney Dunagan had an RBI. Whitney Gavin added a hit.

Ackerman struck out seven and walked eight, allowed just two hits, in the win.

Clarke Prep won the opener 10-6.

Allen went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Schultz was 2- for-3 with three RBI. Haley Hill went 2-for-3 with a double. Ackerman and Hicks each had a double. Sales added a hit and an RBI. Kiley Dunagan also had a hit.

Allen got the win. She struck out nine and walked six.

This was the last time the Lady Gators played Cottage Hill as the Lady Warriors are moving to the Alabama High School Athletic Association next year

The Lady Gators now travel to Montgomery to play in the Class AAA state softball tournament at Lagoon Park. They are the seven seed and will play second seeded Glenwood at 11:30 on Field Two.

Other area teams that will be playing in Montgomery include Jackson Academy, Patrician Academy, Marengo Academy and South Choctaw Academy.

JA is the four-seed in Class AA and will play Patrician, the fiveseed, Friday at 10 a.m. Marengo is the top-seed and plays Escambia. SCA, the four-seed, plays Open Door, at 10 a.m.

The tournament runs Friday and Saturday.
