The 2008 baseball season came to an abrupt end for the Clarke County High School Bulldogs last Friday as they lost both games of a double-header to the visiting Green Wave of Gordo High School.

It was the second straight season that the Bulldogs had advanced as far as the second round. In 2007 they made it to the quarter-finals.

In the deciding game the CCHS pitches fanned 13 batters and allowed just two hits, but nine walks and a hit batsman aided Gordo in a 5-4 series-clinching win.

Josh Watford went 2-for-3 with a 2-run homer. Chris Andrews went 2-for-3. Hunter Cross went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Adrian Snell was 1-for-2. Zach Watford added an RBI.

Deandre Love (5-1) took the loss. The freshman pitched one and one-third innings, walked six and hit one batter. Cross pitched the final five and two-thirds, allowing one hit and striking out 12.

In the opener the Bulldogs lost 13-2.

J. Watford (5-3) shouldered the loss. He pitched all seven frames, allowing just five earned runs while striking out two.

Justin Robinson went 2-for-3. Tyler Walker was 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Cross went 1-for-2. J. Watford also had a hit.

Clarke County ends the season with a 19-13 record.
