Community Calendar The Southwest Alabama AIDS Prevention Coalition will have its monthly meeting at 11 a.m. in the Monroe County Health Department Friday, May 9. Volunteers sought for hotel dig Persons interested in Alabama history and archaeology have an opportunity to assist in the excavation of a historic former hotel building in old St. Stephens Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The excavation of the Globe Hotel, circa 1815, will be conducted under the direction of archaeologist George Shorter of the University of South Alabama. Volunteers are urged to bring lunch, water and sunscreen. Youth, 12 and under, must be accompanied by a parent. Previous excavation experience is not required. Tools will be provided. CCERA final meeting The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will hold its final meeting for the 2007-2008 year Thursday, May 15 at 11:45 a.m. at The Grill in Thomasville. Hostesses for the meeting will be Lena Carol Bishop, Alberta Dixon, Betty Heaton, Arengia Knight and Mirkerline Talley. Officers for 2008-2010 will be installed. All education retirees, members and associate members are invited to attend. Snow White auditions set Announcing auditions for "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs," directed by Amy Clarke Davis and produced by the Grove Hill Arts Council will be Friday, May 16 at 3 p.m. at the Thomasville High School Cafeteria and Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. at Clarke-Davis Performing Arts Studio in Grove Hill. SWAIA has political forum set The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association's (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The meeting is entitled "Voters Empowerment: Clarke County Political Candidates Forum." This meeting will feature political candidates seeking office or reelection for city, county, state and U.S. positions.
