CCERA final meeting

The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will hold its final meeting for the 2007-2008 year Thursday, (today) May 15 at 11:45 a.m. at the Grill in Thomasville. Hostesses for the meeting will be Lena Carol Bishop, Alberta Dixon, Betty Heaton, Arengia Knight and Mirkerline Talley. Officers for 2008-2010 will be installed. All education retirees, members and associate members are invited to attend.

Snow White auditions set

Announcing auditions for "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs," directed by Amy Clarke Davis and produced by the Grove Hill Arts Council will be Friday, May 16 at 3 p.m. at the Thomasville High School Cafeteria and Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. at Clarke-Davis Performing Arts Studio in Grove Hill. Casting ages 4 through 21. Children will read from the script at the audition. Show dates are July 18-20 at Sage Auditorium. For more information call Amy C. Davis at 251-275-3730.

Uriah Cotton Patch Festival

The 15th annual Uriah Cotton Patch Festival will be held Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Ronnie Lambert will be the MC for this year. Grateful Heart, Cross Roads and Joyful Noise of Monroe County and Gospel Jubilee of Jackson will be the entertainment. Other local talent will also be featured. Bring your lawn chair. Cotton Patch t-shirts will be for sale. Buy a chance to win a Jack C. Deloney, matted and framed print. There will be many vendors and good food from the food booths. SWAIA sets political forum

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association's (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be held Tuesday, May 20 at 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The meeting is entitled "Voters Empowerment: Clarke County Political Candidates Forum." This meeting will feature political candidates seeking office or reelection for city, county, state and U.S. positions. Clarke County DHR Board Meeting

The Clarke County Department of Human Resources Quarterly Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 22, at 3:30 p.m. at the Clarke County Department of Human Resources Board Room located at 22609 Highway 84,Grove Hill. Lou I. Boykin, Director.

WHHS Class of 1968 meets

Historical Society to meet

The Clarke County Historical Society will hold its May meeting in Coffeeville on Sunday, May 25 in recognition of Coffeeville's bicentennial. The group will meet at Ulcanush Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Ulcanush is the oldest church in Clarke County, constituted in 1816. It is located on Highway 69 North.

Jim Cox, Clarke County newspaper publisher and a native of Coffeeville will talk about the community's history. Coffeeville dates its settlement to 1808 when the community was known as Murrell's Landing, named for early settler William Murrell.

The Coffeeville community is planning an afternoon celebration on Saturday, May 31 with a number of activities being planned.

Bereavement group meets

SouthernCare provides a bereavement support group the last Thursday of every month at 3 p.m. The meeting is at the SouthernCare office located in Grove Hill beside McVay's Home Care. Blood drive to be held

SouthernCare is sponsoring a blood drive through United Blood Services to be held on Friday, May 30 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. United Blood Services provide blood to the local hospitals and facilities. If you are interested in participating in the blood drive, please call SouthernCare at 251-275-2273 or 1-888-641- 6126. Last day to register to vote

The Board of Registrars would like to let everyone wanting to register to vote in the June 3, 2008 election, the last day to register or to update information is Friday, May 23. Anyone that needs to register should come by the Registrars office in the Clarke County Courthouse Monday through Friday from 8 until 12 and 1 until 4:30 p.m.

Coffeeville's 200 birthday

The Town of Coffeeville will celebrate 200 years of success on Saturday, May 31. The genealogy committee would like every one of Coffeeville to display his or her heritage on that day. Please furnish your own display table and cover. If you have artifacts to loan to the committee, they will be protected and returned. If any citizen has special artifacts or pictures that can be displayed on the Coffeeville history table, please contact one of the committee members. Please be at Town Hall at 4 p.m. to set up your display.
