Physical Education and Sports Week celebrated at GHES

Physical Education and Sports Week was celebrated at Grove Hill Elementary School during the week of May 5-9.

The week started off with a school wide assembly on Monday. Mrs. Rocker, a first grade teacher, began the assembly by singing the Star Spangled Banner. The President's Challenge Fitness Test awards for the spring were given out.

The following students earned the National Fitness Award: Arkeevia Armstead, A'Kirra Hudson, Casen Young, Allie Wilson, Reagan Roberts, Raneka Frazier, Tamia Dixon, Ashley Daffin, Dharanie Stewart, Jada Page, Kalisha Hudson, Jacorey Lee and Edward London. The Maypole Dance was demonstrated by 12 girls from the third grade.

Various activities that were learned during the school year were demonstrated by students from each grade level. The teachers were given the opportunity to show off their athletic ability by competing in several relays. As a finale, everyone participated in the Chicken Dance.

On Tuesday, the children enjoyed jumping in two air jumpers that were the characters Sponge Bob and Thomas the Train.

Wednesday was field day with students from each class competing in the 40 yard dash, tennis ball throw, standing broad jump and the running long jump. After these events, a tug of war tournament was held between the classes. The following classes won the tug of war in their grade level. Kindergarten Mrs. Andrews, First Grade- Mrs. Phillips, Second Grade-Mrs. Washington, Third Grade-Mrs. Clanton and Fourth Grade-Ms. Allen

Thursday was Tootsie Roll Field Day. There were 20 stations, manned by the Clarke County High School Ambassadors and parent volunteers. Students were able to earn a tootsie roll when successfully completing a skill at a station. Some of the stations were box hockey, basketball shoot, golf putting, obstacle course, jump rope, two man tug of war, bowling, balance beam, bean bag toss and other activities.

The week was a success thanks to our volunteers and the CCHS Ambassadors.
