Students conduct animal studies

This past month, students in the fourth grade at Grove Hill Elementary School have been conducting animal studies. The animals under investigation are an ocean animal called the Fiddler Crab, a freshwater animal called the Dwarf African Frog, and a land animal called the millipede. By caring for three different animals from three various habitats, students have increased their skills in observing and describing the animals' physical characteristics and behaviors. Fourth grade students have been responsible for feeding animals, taking care of their habitats, and ensuring their survival. They have developed higher-level thinking skills through scientific reasoning. The best part of all, however, is that at the end of the unit, the animals are adopted out to numerous students (with parental permission, of course). Contributed Photo
