BCA chief tells Troy grads to be 'agents of change' The head of the Business Council of Alabama encouraged Troy University graduates Friday to become "agents of change" in the world. Billy Canary, president and chief executive officer of the BCA, addressed more than 400 graduates participating in spring commencement exercises at Sartain Hall on the Troy Campus. He told graduates not to fear change, but embrace it, because they will see more changes than any preceding generation. "You see the amount of knowledge we possess as a people double every two years," he said. "However, with all the continuous change that has surrounded you since birth, the rate at which that change will continue will only accelerate as you enter your place in society." "You have the choice to either be the agent of change or the recipient of change," Canary said. "Leave here ready to be that unseen benefactor, that agent of change that your family has dreamed you would one day be." Canary joined the BCA after serving as president and chief executive officer of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) in Washington, D.C. A former elected official, Canary has an extensive background in the public policy and governmental arenas. In 1989, President George H. W. Bush appointed him to serve in the White House as special assistant to the president for intergovernmental affairs. Following his time at the White House, Canary was named chief of staff for the Republican National Committee. Students from 18 states and 11 foreign nations received diplomas Friday.
