Godbold-Fleming marry in British Virgin Islands

Mrs. Joshua McDowell Godbold nee Kimberley Nicole Fleming
Kimberley Nicole Fleming and Joshua McDowell Godbold were united in marriage in a private ceremony recently in the British Virgin Islands. The couple repeated the marriage vows on the lawn at Rosewood Little Dix Bay overlooking the Caribbean with the mountains of Virgin Gorda in the background. Following the ceremony the couple honeymooned on the islands. They now reside in Orange Beach.

On May 10, a reception was held at the home of Jimmy and Jean Butts on Allen Road in Grove Hill, the bride's maternal grandparents.

In the late afternoon when guests arrived at the entrance to the home, they were greeted by large columns topped with urns containing fresh greenery and spring flowers. Driving up the straight approach lined with water oaks, fresh green meadows stretched in all directions. When guests parked and were preparing to enter the English garden, the sound of a Highland bagpiper, Michael Whinery of Mobile flowed across the meadow.

The guest registry table made of iron and glass held a silver urn filled with yellow and white oriental lilies along with other spring flowers. After registering, guests approached a white damask fabric that draped 35 feet from the branch of a hickory tree and resembled the wings of a white dove flying in the wind. In the center, a large flower ball hung from the tree. Under the blue sky, the setting resembled the casual elegance of an old English garden.

The focal point was a tall English garden statue garlanded with fresh greenery and a mixture of spring flowers. Surrounding the statue were tables covered in white damask and slip-covered chairs. Rising from each table were pillar candelabras overflowing with a mixture of fresh greenery and spring flowers. Amid the setting were large columns supporting iron candelabras overflowing with fresh springeri fern, flowers and candles. Other large iron stands containing mixtures of greenery and flowers were placed around the grounds.

Other central points included numerous white tents. The food tents contained iron chandeliers with fresh flowers hanging from the center. The centerpiece included a tall garden obelisk with fresh flowers, flowing greenery and cascading fruit surrounded with melon baskets and assorted fruits. Side tables included ornate Venetian finials surrounded with various foods. Food included baskets of fresh vegetables, crudités, mini croissants filled with southern chicken salad, shrimp and sausage jambalaya circled with colorful peppers, onions and fresh herbs. A large mirror displayed aged cheeses, dried fruits, nuts, an array of cheese truffles, and herbed tea biscuits filled with roasted pork and fig preserves with a duet of sauces. Outside the tent was a silver punch fountain adorned with fresh flowers flowing with iced tea infused with white cranberry, peach nectar and fresh peaches.

In a small tent, a cascading white damask and an iron and crystal chandelier lit the desserts. Sweets included individual chocolate cake truffles with chocolate ganache and an elegant layered cake topped with fresh white flowers. The four-layered cake was decorated in a bold green icing with white designs. Other sweets were on a threetiered plate buffet. Amid tall urns of curly willow with overflowing flowers was the bar tent. Inside were large crystal vases holding bright green apples, swimming goldfish and fresh yellow orchids. Antique English butler trays with metal birds surrounded the tents. Urns of fresh spring flowers also stood outside the tents.

As day turned into night, trees came to life with miniature white lights. Hanging on the trees also were iron candle sconces and iron chandeliers with candles. Clusters of pillar candles glistened in globes around the grounds. Soft spotlights and metal torches gave attention to the English statue and the hanging flower ball. Friends and relatives enjoyed the music of Les Lenton of Gulf Shores. As the mystical effect of nightfall came, guests shared memories and raised toasts to Nicole and Josh wishing that life would always be as wonderful for them as the night in the English garden.

I was disappointed that the lineage was not mentioned as I was raised in Allen and knew some people with the same last names and was curious if that is the same family.
