Jackson candidates
Richard Long (I) Mayor Jackson Mayor Richard Long is seeking a third term. Long, employed by Boise, is planning to retire by the end of the year and said he will be able to devote full-time to the mayor's duties if re-elected. Long has served as mayor and a council member for 20 years and believes he has the experience and the desire to lead the city. He calls the times "exciting" and believes the future will be good for Jackson in a variety of ways—business, industrial and residential. He said it will require a mayor willing to work to promote and seek growth and he believes he is the person to do that. Michael Devane Overton Mayor Michael Devane Overton is making his second run for mayor. Reducing crime, more jobs, better health care and improving the schools are some of the issues he will address as mayor. He wants to see the mayor, council members and the citizens working together to bring about a better way of living for everyone in Jackson.
Eddie Huggins (I) District 2 Place 2 Eddie Huggins stated that he is seeking a third term on the council for District 2, Place 2. "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of District 2 and all of Jackson," said Huggins. He has worked for a variety of improvements, including recreation and an after school tutoring program. Huggins believes the city of Jackson is on the verge of the greatest period of growth it has ever seen. He believes his experience in city government can help lead the city as it continues to grow and progress in the years to come.
Billy Allday is seeking election to the Jackson City Council District 2 Place 2. He previously held that position for 24 years. Allday said, "I thoroughly enjoyed working with the citizens of Jackson. "There have been many improvements in the city of Jackson, however, there will always be more. I would like to be a part of those improvements. "I am retired and will commit myself to be available at all times to listen and answer your questions and concerns. I will work with the mayor and other council members to make Jackson a prosperous place," Allday explained. Paul South (I) District 2 Place 1 Paul South is seeking re-election to the District 2 Place 1 Jackson City Council position He has served on the council for 16 years and as mayor pro tem for the past eight years. South is proud of his service on the water board and seeing water service upgraded and improved. South said he supports all aspects of growth for the city— education, business and industrial, health and more. However, he also wants to work to retain the city's small town atmosphere.
Jimmy Atchison District 2 Place 1 Jimmy Atchison is running for the District 2, Place 1 on the Jackson City Council, the seat currently held by Paul South. This is his first time to seek an elected office, but he is no stranger to the people in Jackson. He has worked for Clarke Washington (REA) for 34 years in numerous positions and in manager operations for about 10 years. "I will represent the people in District 2, Place 1 in a fair and impartial manner. I look forward to personally meeting and getting feedback from the people in my district," Atchison said. Robert Marks (I) Council District 3 Place 1 Robert Marks is seeking a third term as city council member for District 3, Place 1. He feels that the next four years will be crucial for Jackson. "We have an opportunity like no other generation in our city's history for true life changing growth and prosperity. We must be prepared and open-minded in order to obtain the opportunities that are within our grasp," Marks explained.
Dwight Goolsby Council District 3 Place 1 Dwight Goolsby is seeking the District 3, Place 1 Jackson City Council seat. "I pledge to work hard and represent the citizens of this city," said Goolsby. "Our city faces many challenges in the days ahead and everyone working together can make it a great place to work, live and support our families." Goolsby, a retired independent insurance adjuster of 30 years, has been employed by Central Supply of Monroeville for the past 15 years.
"If chosen to serve the citizens of Jackson, I believe we can work together to achieve greater things for our city," said Goolsby.
