EAST BREWTON—The Clarke County High School Bulldogs exacted a certain amount of revenge as they pounded region foe W. S. Neal 49-12 here last Friday night.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the season, but more importantly gives them a 1-0 leg up in region play with the Jackson Aggies coming to town this week.

"We had a rough week of practice after the Leroy game," Coach Allan Floyd said. "They responded against W. S. Neal. It was a big win because it is a region game and those wins are important with the teams we have still to play."

The Bulldogs didn't do anything fancy on their first drive of the game as they took the initial possession and drove 71-yards in 12 plays, 11 of which came on the ground.

Tim Barnett capped the drive with a 1-yard plunge. Justin Robinson tacked on the PAT and CCHS had a 7-0 advantage with 7:37 left in the opening period.

The Bulldog defense, looking to send a message, then added to the scoring as Robinson picked off a W. S. Neal pass in the flats and returned it 37-yards for the touchdown.

He also kicked the point-after touchdown try and Clarke County had a 14-0 lead with 6:42 to go in the frame.

The Blue Eagle return man hauled in the ensuing kickoff at the 7-yard line and returned it 93-yards for the touchdown.

The attempt was no good as W. S. Neal cut into the lead 14-6 with 6:19 left in the first quarter.

The Blue Eagles buried CCHS deep in their own territory later in the period.

A holding penalty backed the ball up to the Bulldog 7-yard line.

Facing second down and 17- yards to go, Tyler Walker tossed a short pass to Barnett who cut through the Blue Eagle defense and rambled 93-yards for the score.

Robinson again kicked the PAT and CCHS had a 21-6 lead with 4:00 to go.

Clarke County wasted little time in the second quarter as they scored on their second play from scrimmage when Barnett broke free on a 65-yard sprint.

Robinson booted his fourth PAT and the Bulldogs had a 28-6 stranglehold with 10:48 left in the half.

Just before the end of the first half the Clarke County offense again took the field.

They put together a 63-yard, 15- play drive, in which they converted one fourth down play, to hit paydirt.

QB Walker called his own number, capping the drive with a 5- yard bootleg run.

Robinson made the kick and CCHS took a 35-6 lead into the break.

W. S. Neal came out firing in the third quarter as they marched 74- yards to score. The drive ended with a 4-yard TD pass. The attempt was no good, but the Blue Eagles cut into the lead 35-12 with 8:29 to play in the frame

The Bulldogs responded on the ensuing drive. It took three plays to drive 57-yards. Barnett handled the ball on all three snaps, including catching a 5-yard scoring pass from Walker.

The kick from Robinson split the up-rights and Clarke County had a 42-12 lead with 6:38 to play in the third.

Torrie Taite ended the game's scoring with a 30-yard run in the closing minutes of the period.

Robinson made it a perfect 7- for-7 on PAT kicks, making the final score 49-12.

Barnett finished the night leading all rushers with 188 yards on 23 carries and two scores. He also caught two passes for 98 yards and a pair of TDs.

Walker was 4-of-6 passing for 114 yards and two scores.

Taite had 76 yards on seven carries and a TD.

On the defensive side of the ball Robinson had two interceptions, including one for a TD.

The Bulldogs (1-1, 1-0) will have their home opener this Friday as they host the Jackson Aggies (2-0, 1-0) in a key region game as well as one for county bragging rights.

Game time is 7 p.m. at H.G. Prim Stadium.
