Bates

Henry Bates, 79, of Jackson died Nov. 23 in a Mobile area hospital.

He was a native of Sumter County. He was a member of McCann's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of Santa Fe Lodge #226. He was a retired Tugboat Captain for Midland Towing Company.

Survivors include his wife, Doris M. Bates, Jackson; two sons, Hank Bates, Jonathan Brett Bates, both of Jackson; one daughter, Sandra (Tony) McClinton, Jackson; two brothers, Joseph Bates, Plantersville, James Bates, Anniston; one sister, Johnnie Mary Wallace, Pelham; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

The service was Nov. 25 at 10 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe McKinney officiating. Burial was in the Trinity Memorial Gardens in Jackson.
