Rev. James Harold Nichols, 74, of Sweet Water died Jan. 23, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary.
He was born Oct. 25, 1934 in Butler County, Alabama. Rev. Nichols pastored for 56 years in several United Methodist and Baptist churches in Alabama and was the current pastor of Old Union Baptist Church in Sweet Water.
Survivors include one son, Lanny (Vickie) Nichols, Georgiana; two daughters, Darlene (Stan) Littleton, Wrens, Ga., Sharon (Johnny) Rayborn, Brantley, Ala.; one sister, Shelia Wesley, Greenville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Ruth Nichols who died July 2, 2008.
The service was Jan. 26 at 11 a.m. at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with Revs. Stan Littleton, Bobby Hopper and John Bonner officiating. Burial was in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Sweet Water.
Active pallbearers were Kinner Jowers, Pitt Huckabee, Curtis Gates, Don Black, John Sommers and Ed Sheffield.
Honorary pallbearers were BoBo Downey, Sid Pope, Bud Black, Andy Etheredge, John Ott and Scott Walker.
