Willie Maebelle Wilkerson Newton, 89, of Thomasville died Feb. 28, 2009 at Southwest Alabama Medical Center.

She was born July 12, 1919 in Tallahatta Springs. She was a member of Elam Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Benton (Irene) Newton, Aiken, S.C., Gerald (Sandra) Newton, Thomasville; three daughters, Willodean Webb, Robbie (Charles) Edmonds, Linda (R.G.) Wilkerson, all of Thomasville; two sisters, Narvalee Williams, Sandflat, Mary Lou (Lavert) Duke, Coffeeville; nine grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; two step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren.

The service was March 3 at 10 a.m. at Elam Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Stabler officiating. Burial was in the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery in Thomasville. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Active pallbearers were Rusty Bishop, Heath Bishop, Will Ashcraft, Rusty Edmonds, Shane Newton and Blaine Newton.

Honorary pallbearers were Reggie Newton, Dale Jordan, Carr Stabler, Mike Williams, L.C. Pugh, Rex Rush and Brent Newton.
