Robbie Chamberlain Mathews, 91, a native of Clarke County and a resident of Mobile for sixty years, died in a Shoals hospital on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008 after an extended illness.
She was born April 21, 1917. Her parents were Walter Leonard Chamberlain and Alma Hamilton Chamberlain of Whatley.
Survivors include two sons; Dr. Robert David (Leta) Mathews, Sheffield; Condie Nicholson (Patricia) Mathews, Gulf Point, Mississippi; four grandchildren, Dr. Brian N. (Sturiett) Mathews Huntsville, David Robert (April) Mathews, Hartselle, Ken (Stacy), Mathews, Petal, Misissippi, Cheryl M. (Ken) Crittenden, Birmingham; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Eavan, Rebecca, Corinna, Elliot, and Tessa Mathews; three nieces, Anne May Jones, Jackson, Jane M. Chastain, Auburn and Bettie M. Howell, Huntsville; and numerous great-nieces, nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Condie Nicholson Mathews; three sisters, Jena C. McDaniel Birmingham, Lucile C. May, Jackson and Lois C. Cogbill, Birmingham.
A memorial service was on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Morrison Funeral Rome in Tuscumbia. Burial was at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20 at Mobile Memorial Gardens.
