Morris Gerald "Jerry" Drinkard, 63, of Wagarville died April 16, 2009 at his residence.
He was born Jan. 2, 1946. He was a native of Mobile. He was in the National Guard from 1963 through 1965. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Leroy. He was an electrician with Akzo Nobel Chemical Company in Axis. He was a former president of the local 9-593 with the United Steel Workers for five years. He was also owner of Drinkard Heating and Air Conditioning.
Survivors include his wife, Jean McCloskey Drinkard, Wagarville; one daughter, Jessica D. (Al) Wiggins, Leroy; his mother, Naomi Drinkard, Wagarville; one brother, Michael Drinkard, Wagarville; three sisters, Martha (Travis) Howard, Tibbie, Joanne (Mike) Neal, Texarkana, AR, Cindy (Jim) Ikner, Gordonsville, VA; two grandchildren, Harley Elizabeth Wiggins, Jordan Rae Wiggins, both of Leroy.
The service was April 18 at 3 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson with Rev. James Watkins officiating. Burial was in the New Leroy Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the building fund of the First Baptist Church of Leroy.
Active pallbearers were Bo Garris, Kenneth Cunningham, Jamie Howard, Craig Howard, Bill Walker and Freddie McLain Jr.
Honorary pallbearers were Freddie McLain Sr., Sammy Wallace, Billy Anderson, Terry Allen, Otis Tarver and Kenny Burnett.
