Fred Martin, 94, of the Mt. Zion community of Grove Hill died June 20, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.

He was born May 23, 1915. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church, Grove Hill, where he remained a life-long, faithful, and dedicated member and deacon until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a member of Utopia Lodge #251 F&AM of Grove Hill.

Survivors include one daughter, Willie Mae (Roy) Nobles, Mobile; three brothers-in-law, Fletcher Lee (Theresa) Pugh, Rancho Palo Verdes, CA; Eddie Roy (Marie) Pugh, Evie Lewis Pugh, all of Grove Hill; two sisters-in-law: Inez Pugh and Peola Pugh, both of Los Angeles, CA; one granddaughter, Chiquita (Stanley) Hall, Plano, TX; four great-grandchildren: Derrick C. Nobles- Williams, Los Angels, CA, Giavonni Rene Nobles, Alexus Nobles, both of Portland, OR, Khalid Xavier Hall, Plano, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rivers and Willie Mae Martin, his wife, Annie Mae Martin, who died Nov. 28, 2007, his five siblings, Theodore Martin, Willie Gaston Martin, Blunchie Martin, Vivian Martin and Etta Lee Chapman.

Services will be held Thursday, June 25 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Rev. Cory Pruitt, pastor and eulogist. Viewing will be from 10 until 11 a.m. The Masonic Ceremony will be performed at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church Cemetery. Following the burial, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson will direct.
