David Carl Atchison, 74, of Salitpa died Aug. 7, 2009 in a Mobile area hospital.
He was born Jan. 3, 1935. He was a retired Lock Tender from the Army Corps of Engineers at Coffeeville. He served with the United States Army's 4th Armored Division. He was a member of River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa. He was a member of H. Clay Armstrong Masonic Lodge #544, Salitpa. He was a member of the Clarke County and The Alabama Cattleman's Associations.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (Dot) Turner Atchison, Salitpa; one son, Almon (Al) Clayton Atchison, Spanish Fort; two daughters, Joycelyn ( Joy) Atchison (Phil) Bailey), Birmingham, Traci Augusta Atchison (Michael) Turley, Charleston, West VA; four granddaughters, Margaret K. (Maggie) Bailey, Lyra C. (Lily) Bailey, both of Birmingham, Emily M. Atchison, Anna A. Atchison, both of Spanish Fort.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Clayton and Augusta York Atchison and a sister, Mary Ellen Atchison Willis.
The service was Aug. 10 at 11 a.m. at River Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Henry Creel and Wilton Bennett officiating. Burial followed with Masonic graveside services at River Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to the River Hill Baptist Church or H. Clay Armstrong Masonic Lodge #544, Salitpa or to the charity of choice. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
