Jessie Jean Hawk, 89, of Coffeeville died Aug. 23, 2009 in an area hospital.
She was born Aug. 26, 1919. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville. She graduated from Livingston University and was a charter member of the Beta Xi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was a retired school teacher of 35 years from the Clarke County School Board.
Survivors include three nephews, Charles Robert (Carlton) Cotten, Greenwood, S.C., James Gray (Patsy) Cotten, Coffeeville, John Franklin (Shirley) Cotten, John Franklin (Shirley) Cotten, Brewton; one niece, Leona Faye Cotten (Guardian), Coffeeville; one brother, Alex Gray (Ruby) Hawk, Jackson; five greatnephews; two great-nieces; one great-great-nephew and nine great-great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Franklin Gray and Jessie Earl York Hawk and a sister, Lonie Cotten.
The service was Aug. 25 at 2 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Tim Huie, Keith Graham and Roscoe Wentworth officiating. Burial was in the Coffeeville Cemetery.
