Helen June Douglas, 74, of Andalusia died Aug. 19, 2009 at her residence.

Survivors include two sons, Steven Causey, Jackson, Jeff Causey, Conyers, GA; three daughters, Kay Deland, Grove Hill, Sandra Tew, Andalusia, Linda Lewis, Grove Hill; one brother, Jack Higgens, North Carolina; two sisters, Peggy Hall, Sebastian, FL, Judy Caudle, Oak Ridge, TN; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George C. Douglas, a son, Bobby Causey, her parents, Jack Harold Higgens and Annie Pearl Lee Higgens and two brothers.

A private memorial service was held by the family. Mrs. Douglas' final request was for her body to be donated to the State of Alabama Anatomical Board for the study of Sclaroderma, a disease which she suffered with most of her adult life. Little is available to patients who suffer at the mercy of this disease. She hoped the study would provide new knowledge for other people. Mrs. Douglas desired this to be her legacy.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sclaraderma Foundation or N.O.R.D. Keahey Funeral Home of Andalusia directed.
