Not such an itsy bitsy spider

Terry Stifflemire photographed this large golden silk orb-weaver spider at his home on Foscue Avenue. The spiders are known for their large and elaborate orb webs. The spider also goes by the name giant wood spider and banana spider. The spiders aren't as potent as a black widow but Web sites say their bite can hurt. Still, it is too beautiful of a creature to harm. Unlike the children's song about the "Itsy Bitsy Spider," this one isn't tiny. Stifflemire said it was about three to four inches long.
