Walter James Brown, 85, a resident of Sunflower, died Sept. 24, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital. Brown was veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He was a retired professional plumber.
Survivors include two sons, James W. (Denise) Brown Jr. and Michael (Brenda) Hampton, both of Springs Lake, N.C.; five daughters, Virginia McMillian of Chicago, Ill., Shirley Johnson of Sunflower, Vivian Jean Tohe and Min. Regina A. Brown, both of Columbia, S.C., and Kathryn (Ben) Hammond of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 18 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren; four sisters, Floretta (Frank) Bush, Annette Austin and Helen Moore, all of Mobile, and Dora (Hartman) Robinson of Sunflower; two brothers, John Brown of Sunflower and Dr. Wash W. Brown Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska; and two sisters-in-law, Elder Myrtle Brown of McIntosh and Peggy Brown of Birmingham.
Viewing will be Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour at 11, at Mt. Shady A.M.E. Zion Church in Sunflower. Interment will follow in the Brown Family Cemetery in Sunflower under the direction of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.
