William Daniel “W.D.” Brooks died Sept. 28, 2009 at his home in Manassas, Va.
He was born Oct. 2, 1924 to the parents of John and Lennie (Cox) Brooks. He was a resident of Mobile and was employed by Brookly Air Force base as an aircraft maintenance electrician until November, 1966 when he transferred to Andrews Air Force Base, MD. He retired from both Andrews Air Force Base and the Metropolitan D.C. Transient Authority. Everyone who knew “Brooks” knew that his life’s moto was “Laissez les bons temps roule!” (Let the good times roll!)
During his lifetime he enjoyed being surrounded by his 11 grandchildren, William (Dickie) Strother, Travis Everett, Tracie Strother, Kevin Jackson, Kelvin Estelle, Dwayne Mc- Cree, Wayne Mozanque II, LaVecchia Mozanque, Rianne Brooks, Morgan Evans and Bernard Davis.
Survivors include four devoted daughters, Delores McCune, Ella Everett, Lennie (Louis) Bowen, all of Mobile, Vera Brooks, Baltimore, MD; one brother, Danny Brooks, Allen; three sisters, Mary Williams, Cleveland, Ohio, Gravil Morris, Gwendolyn (Henry) Briggs, Allen. He will be dearly missed by his loving and devoted companion, Gloria Walker, Gainesville, VA and her two children, Rose (Norman) Anthony, Raymond Thomas, Washington, D.C.; a host of greatgrandchildren; nephews, nieces, other family members and lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pola Catherine Mozanque, a son, Wayne Mozanque and a brother, Samuel Brooks.
The service was Oct. 6 at 11 a.m. at Small’s Mortuary Chapel at 950 South Broad Street in Mobile with Minister Willie Patterson officiating and Milton Paul Tucker Sr., presiding. Burial was in the Lawnhaven Cemetery in Theodore.
Active pallbearers were Dwayne McCrea, Morgan Evans, William (Dickie) Strother, Wayne Mozangue II, Kevin Jackson, Travis Everett and Kelvin Estelle.
