James Willie Alston, 104, of Toddtown died Nov. 5, 2009 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 2, 1903. He was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Ebenezer community of Jackson. He served as a trustee and was on the usher board. He was one of the first contributors to help build the Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army in World War II as a mail carrier.
Survivors include his wife, Willo Dean Alston, Toddtown; one son, James Moss, Toddtown; three daughters, Margaret (Mose) Moore, Vonciel (Milton) Caver, Grace (Daniel) Robinson, all of Pittsburg, PA; a brother-inlaw, Elder Curtis Kilpatrick; a sister-in-law, Carrie Alston; a host of grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; and greatgreat grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Williams and Sarah Taylor Alston, three brothers, Theodore Alston, W.D. Alston, John Alston and Oceola Alston, a sister, Ethel Alston Kilpatrick and a son, John Edward Moss.
A visitation will be held Friday, Nov. 13 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Jackson Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Coffeeville. Burial will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
