Robert James "Smokey" Richardson, 88, Leroy died Nov. 1, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born May 20, 1921. He was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Leroy. He was a World War II veteran having served in the United States Army. He received many medals of honor.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Seltzer Richardson, Leroy; five sons, Roy Richardson, Los Angeles, CA, Anthony Richardson, Jessup, GA, Robert Richardson, Winfred Richardson, both of Leroy, James (Omega) Richardson, Mobile; 11 daughters, Domenique (Alan) Hobel, Ophelia (David) Leffler, both of San Diego, CA, Debbie Richardson, Mary Richardson, both of Leroy, Edna Richardson Billingsley, Alicia Richardson, both of Mobile, Cynthia Bodiford, Baton Rouge, LA, Anise (Edward) Daffin, East Point, MI, Sandra George, Anniston, Brenda Richardson, Thompson, GA, Airman First Class Melanie (Rico) Griffin, Dover, DE; two sisters, Mary (Robert) Edwards, San Antonio, TX, Lucille Eubanks, McLean, VA; two brothers-in-law, Charles Seltzer, James Seltzer, both of Compton, CA; two sisters-inlaw, Catherine ( John) Braggs, Laverne, CA, Mamie Tate, Compton, CA; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Edna, Richardson, a daughter, Evelyn Balestier, brothers, Edward Richardson, James Richardson, Randolph Richardson, a sister, Janie Jenkins, and former wife, Annie Pearl Richardson.
The service was Saturday, Nov. 7 at 12 noon at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Prestwick with Rev. Willie Jackson officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.
