Catherine Ross Harper, 87, of Birmingham, died Nov. 22, 2009 at Stockwood Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 24, 1921 in Aimwell. She was a former resident of Pine Hill. She graduated with a degree in Home Economics from Alabama College (now Montevallo University) and taught school in Marbry and Georgianna following graduation. She worked for many years with the Department of Pensions and Security in Camden and in her most recent work was with the United States Postal Service as Post Master in Pine Hill and as a clerk with the Thomasville, AL Post Office. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law and aunt whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her forever.
Survivors include one son, Michael Ross (Cynthia Mitcham) Harper, Durand, GA; one daughter, Valerie Harper, Birmingham; one sister, Jo Baxter, Birmingham; one grandson, Michael Ross Harper II, Paris, France.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Wilbur Ross, her mother, Myrtie Rogers Ross; her husband, D.P. Harper, two brothers, Wilbur Ross and Billy Ross and one sister, Virginia Ross Fowler.
The service Nov. 27 at 11 a.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church with Dr. John Roy officiating. Burial was in the Pine Hill Cemetery. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.
