Johnnie Calvin Horn Sr., 77, of Grove Hill died Nov. 21, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 30, 1931. He was a member of Orange Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill. After graduating from Wilson Hall High School he received a football scholarship and attended Alabama A&M University in Normal. He served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. He had worked at the General Supply Company and the Jackson Police Department where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Annie Mae Horn, brothers, Clifford Horn, Hollis Horn, Dennis Horn, Earl Horn, wife of 50 years, Mattie Louise Howze Horn; and a son, Johnny Horn Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Allen Horn, Montgomery, Tony Horn, Mobile; four daughters, Deloris (Brent) McCauley, Smyrna, TN, Venita Love, Cleveland, Ohio, Lavenes (Johnny) Mitchell, Agatha Horn, both of Montgomery; one brother, R.J. Horn, Camden; 12 grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren.
The service was Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. at Orange Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Revs. James Barron, pastor and Kyle M. Horn officiating. Burial was in the Orange Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.
