John D. Purvis, 78, of Grove Hill died Nov. 30 at a local health care facility.
He was born June 10, 1931. He was a native of West Bend. He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army. He was a retired crew leader and chemical worker with Monsanto.
Survivors include a special companion and caregiver, June Fagan, Jackson; three sons, Johnny (Ann) Purvis, Grove Hill, Michael (Sonya) Purvis, Atmore, Doug (Noel) Fagan, Alabaster; one daughter, Cynde (Joe) Freeland, Mannington, West, VA; four sisters, Dot Harrell, Retha Harrell, both of Grove Hill, Lee Purvis, Mobile, Eva Lowe, Fairhope; five grandchildren, Rachel Purvis (Tom) Toomey, Becky Purvis, Jason Barber, Amber Freeland, Sean Fagan; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Pritchett, John David Pritchett, Maggie Pritchett, Nathan Purvis, Jaydon Stewart.
A graveside service was Dec. 2 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
Active pallbearers were Keith Harrell, Larry Harrell, Clint Harrell, Roger Pugh, Jimmy Lowe, Tom Toomey, Jacob Pritchett, John David Pritchett, Nathan Purvis and Jason Barber.
