Sammy Joe Laurie, 63, of Chatom died Dec. 13, 2009 at his residence.
He was born Sept. 23, 1946. He was a member of the Chatom First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Chatom Library Board, Alabama State Bar Association, Chatom Utilities Board, Municipal Judge for McIntosh, City Attorney for The Town of Chatom, Chatom Housing Authority and was involved with and a former Chairman of the Washington County United Way. He was a self-employed attorney.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry M. Laurie, Chatom; two daughters, Jennifer (Keith) Lambert, Chatom, Rachel (Rob) Riddle, Prattville.
The service was Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Chatom Community Center. A private graveside service for family and close friends only was held. Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom directed.
Active pallbearers were Edward Lomax, Jerry Revette, Ted Hazen, Jerry Byrd, Harold Crouch, Woodie Lathan, Luke Craig and Alex Odom.
Honorary pallbearers were L.D. Laton, Howard Daugherty Jr., Cat Odom, Dale Singleton, Tommy Hennis, Ralph Morris, Leslie (Jr.) Carpenter, Thurman Ray Beech, Perry Dickey, Mike Savage, Bill Toomey, Chatom City Council.
