Darwin P. Clanton, 87, of Leroy died Jan. 17, 2010 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 25, 1922. He was a native of Coffeeville. He was a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church in Rockville. He was a Sunday school teacher and a Chaplain of the Masonic Lodge, 50 years service and a member of the Masons of the St. Stephens Lodge #81. He was also a member of the NRA. He served in the United States Navy in World War II.
Survivors include one son, John Darwin (Karen) Clanton, Coffeeville; two daughters, Sharon (Ronnie) St. Laurent, Saraland, Patricia (Mike) Smith, Jackson; one sister, Kathleen Dunagan, Coffeeville; eight grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Clanton, a son, Donald E. Clanton, parents, George William and Lizzie Janie Clanton, five brothers, Clyde Clanton, Maybon Clanton, Dub Clanton, Little George Clanton, Bobbie Clanton; one sister, Eloise Nall.
The service was Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Leroy with Revs. James Watkins and Howard Gaston officiating. Burial was in the New Leroy Baptist Church Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
Active pallbearers were Rickie Clanton, Johnny Doggette, Scott Smith, Brian Smith, Tim Windham, Adam St. Laurent, Larry Clanton and Paul Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers were Carl Etheredge, Matt Pace, Johnny Pace, Kenny Nall, Doug Clanton, Jerry Clanton, Charles Edward Patrick, Terry Woodall, Henry Dunagan, Wally Hickman, Pete Waller, Mark Saden and Horace Ball.
