James Edward “Jet” Turner, 68, of Chatom died Jan. 18, 2010 at the Washington County Hospital.

He was born Feb. 9, 1941. He was retired from the Alabama National Guard after 40 years as an E-5 Sergeant.

Survivors include one son, Joseph Turner Beech, Florida; his mother, Ruby Palmer Turner, Chatom; two brothers, Rex Turner, Chatom, Ronald (Linda) Turner, Deer Park; two sisters, Elizabeth Turner, Ophelia (Ronnie) Sullivan, all of Chatom.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Turner and a brother, Donald “Dew Drop” Turner.

The service was Thursday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Chatom with Revs. James McLain and Mark Brand officiating. Burial will be in the Turner Family Cemetery in Chatom.

Active pallbearers were Lamar Sullivan, Billy Sullivan, Mike Sullivan, Daniel Turner, Dustin Sullivan, Donald Sullivan, Michael Scott Sullivan, Hunter Sullivan, John Dillon Sullivan and Josh Turner.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Chatom National Guard, Delta Company 711 Signal.
