Mary Lane Worthy, 80, better known as “Mae” died Jan. 24, 2010.
She was born July 20, 1929 in Mobile. Before moving to Sunflower where she attended school. She was a member of the Little Sunflower No. 3 Baptist Church. She loved to sing and they had a group that consisted of her, her aunt Lillie Robinson, her sister, Martha Worthy, nephews, Matt Worthy and Tom Robinson who both played guitar. Years later she moved to Rockville where she joined Mt. Olive No. I Baptist Church. Later in life she moved to Jackson and joined the Star of Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Jackson where she served as a faithful member until death. Her cherished memories will forever be in the hearts of those she loved so dear.
Survivors include four sons, Robert (Sadie) Worthy, North Carolina, Saul (Patricia) Worthy, Coffeeville, Cleveland (Tamar) Worthy, Thomasville, Tyrone (Annette) Worthy, Detroit, MI; three daughters, Dinna Worthy, Detroit, MI, Linda (Nate) Martin, Tyjuna Worthy, both of Jackson; one sister, Martha Caves, Detroit, MI; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; four nephews, two nieces, five great nieces and 10 greatnephews; two special friends, Mary Mitchell, Loraine Johnson, Jackson.
A public viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 29 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. A second viewing will be held Saturday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral hour at Mt. Olive #1 Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Jackson, pastor, and Rev. Robert Collins to officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive #1 Baptist Church Cemetery.
