Mattie R. Rivers, 95, of Gosport died Jan. 25, 2010 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

She was born April 14, 1914. She was the eighth child of Amos Morgan and Artherine Taylor. She was a former member of Mackey Branch No. 1 Baptist Church in Gosport upon her marriage to the late Henry Rivers, she united with Mackey Branch No. 2 Baptist Church where she was active in various auxiliaries. Later in life, she reunited with her home church where she was a dedicated choir member, Sunday school teacher, deaconess and served in many other auxiliaries. She was a member of the Russell Success No. 674 Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include 13 children, Oscar (Gladys) Morgan, Mobile, McArthur (Thelma) Ruggs, Columbus, OH, Artherine (the Rev. Clausell) Boykin, and Joyce (Clinton) Hawkins, all of Gosport, Archie (Linda) Ruggs Jr., all of Birmingham, Hubert (Minister Dortha) Ruggs, Shalimar, FL, John Rivers, Charlie (Geri) Rivers, Hattie Rivers, Louise Henderson, all of Sarasota, FL, Lee (Hazel) Rivers, Theodore, Curtis (Barbara) Davis, St. Stephens, Evelyn (the Rev. Clayton) Davis, Whatley; three sisters-in-law, Annie L. Ford, Mobile, Margaret Lockett and Essie M. Ruggs, both of Prichard; 76 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; greatgreat grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends and devoted caregivers, Mary Hannon, Ruby Johnson, Beatrice Calhoun, Ruth Denson, Dannye Sumlin, Felicia Hollins, Josephine Johnson and Annie Lou Johnson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Archie Ruggs Sr. and Henry Rivers; four children, Joe Lewis, Ineil, Ineice and Levi and four grandchildren.

The service was Jan. 30 at 2 p.m. at Mackey Branch No. 1 Baptist Church with Rev. T.L. Douglas, pastor and eulogist. The Eastern Star ceremony was held at 2 p.m. Andrews Funeral Home directed.
