Joseph Wilburn Etheredge Sr., 91, died Feb. 22, 2010 at a local health care facility. A native and resident of Jackson, he was born April 7, 1918. He was a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Etheredge was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during WWII and a member of River Hill Baptist Church in Salitpa. He loved turkey and coon hunting, fishing and was a gifted storyteller.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Etheredge of Jackson and Larry Etheredge of Coffeeville; five daughters, Camilla Miller of Salitpa, Joan McIntyre of Mobile, Beverly Jean Young of Burns Lake, Canada, Sarah Foster of San Antonio, Texas and Alese Barton of Jackson; 25 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Ola Etheredge; two sons, James Willie Etheredge and Joseph Wilburn Etheredge Jr.; two grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Feb. 24 at River Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Al Dykeman and Wilson Bennett officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson.
Pallbearers were Ray Bozeman, Joey Bozeman, Jay Bozeman, Larry Tolbert, Jeff Etheredge, Richard Etheredge, Jessie Etheredge, B.J. Foster and Ben Etheredge.
