William (Billy) Bodie Coleman, Jr., 79, died on March 25, 2010 in Covington, LA following a long illness.
He was born in Whatley on August 6, 1930 to William Bodie, Sr. and Anna Mary Whatley Coleman. He was educated in the Whatley and Grove Hill public schools, graduating from Clarke County High School in 1948. After earning a Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University, he started a long career with the Southern Railway Company in Mobile. When the company moved him to Appalachia, Virginia, he met his future wife, Shirley Sullivan, and they were married on April 1, 1964. The company moved him to other locations, such as Birmingham and Covington, LA, where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his widow, and daughter, Lisa Coleman (Charlie) Otterstatter.
There are many relatives and friends still in Clarke County with whom he was in frequent contact. He was a devout Christian, serving his Lord through the local church, Assemblies of God. He witnessed to his faith wherever and whenever he had an opportunity.
There was a graveside service in Powell Valley, Virginia, where his body was interred, near his wife’s family home.
