He was born March 9, 1931 in Winn. He was a member of the Grove Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the Grove Hill Lions Club. He also previously served seven years on the Grove Hill City Council. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict. He and his family owned and operated B & H Auto Parts, Inc.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Horton, Grove Hill; two sons, Gary Horton, Keith Horton, both of Grove Hill; one brother, Jerry Horton, Jackson; one sister, Betty Smith, Chatom; six grandchildren; one greatgrandchild; two stepgrandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Horton.
The service was July 26 at 11 a.m. at Grove Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Bobby Smith and Lee Merck officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery in Grove Hill. Lathan Funeral Home directed.
Active pallbearers were Brett Horton, Jacob Horton, Logan Horton, John Johnson, Dwight Johnson and Ronnie Pruitt.
Honorary pallbearers were Dale Harris Sunday School Class, Ray Sheffield, Fred Kilgore, Morris Dyess, Francis Powell, Wayne Garrick and Tom Daffin.
