Billy Wayne Coats, 44, of Coffeeville died Aug. 6, 2010 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 13, 1965 to the parentage of Eugene Coats and Luciel Coates Coats. He was a 1985 graduate of Coffeeville High School. With a God-given talent and athletic ability to play football, he was blessed to receive full scholarships in athletics. He attended and played football for two years at Jones Junior College in Ellisville, Miss. He furthered his education at Oregon Tech. Clement, Oregon where he completed a major in Diesel Mechanics. He was also blessed with the opportunity to sign and play for a short time in the NFL for the New England Patriots as  a free agent. He was united in holy matrimony to Jocelyn Aragon and to this union two children were born.
He resided in Portland, Oregon for a number of years and was employed with Southern Cal Company as a diesel mechanic. He was also employed with Reser’s Fine Food Company as a truck driver. It was there he met the late Alvin Reser and Patricia Reser who were a great influence in his life. Billy relocated back home to Clarke County where he was employed as a truck driver for Whatley Timber Company.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Jocelyn Aragon Coats; three children, Gracelyn Aragon Coats, Denzel Coats and Wayne Coats, all of Coffeeville; devoted parents, Eugene and Luciel Coats, Coffeeville; a devoted mother-in-law, Rosalie Aragon, Bacolod City, Philippines; two brothers, Ronnie (Sheila) Coats, Rodney Coats, all of Coffeeville; one sister, Dorothy Waters; three sisters-in-law, Brendalee Aragon, South Korea, Aurora Aragon, Rosalia Aragon, both of Bacolod City, Philippines; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Special friends from Portland, Oregon are Brad Bergstrom (who was like a brother), Gayle Bergstrom (his mother away from home), Lance Russell, Mark Cullen, Tim Matlock, Jeff and Cynthia Lee, Las Vegas, Nevada, Glenda Borden, Los Angeles, Calif., Aaron Patrick, Canada.
The service will be Saturday, Aug. 14 at 12 noon at the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Coffeeville with Rev. Albert Ridgeway Jr. to officiate. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until the 12 noon service. Following the burial in the Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery dinner will be served in the fellowship hall of the church. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Coats, 272 Norris Road, Coffeeville, Ala. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson will direct.
