He was born May 12, 1932. He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and united with the Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, Walker Springs, where he was a dedicated church member and sang in the choir faithfully until his health began to fail. He used his God-given talent as a renown songster to praise and glorify God. A self-employed businessman, “Champ”, as he was affectionately known, was the owner of Bryant Pulpwood Company.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Mary Lee Jackson Bryant; six sons, Eddie (Augustine) Bryant, Walker Springs; Sylvester (Rose) Bryant, Jackson; Ira (Jessie) Bryant, Maury ( Jacqueline) Bryant, Orenthal Bryant, Cassius (Tonia) Bryant; all of Walker Springs; one guardian son, Fred (Dora) Bryant, St. Stephens; four daughters, Dorothy (Nathaniel) Scott, Minnie (Robert) Pritchett, both of Walker Springs; Drusilla Bryant, Jackson, Stassa (Benjamin) Thomas, Douglasville, GA; 30 grandchildren, one extremely loving and devoted, Kyra Pritchett, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Also left to cherish his memories is devoted sister-in-law Lurene B. Russell, three brothers in-law James Allen (Pearl) Jackson, J.C. Jackson, and James Pendleton; lifelong friends whom he affectionately referred to as his brothers, Rev. Clayton Davis Sr. and Earl Berry Sr.; devoted cousin whom he called his sister, Anna Smith and devoted cousins Anthony Bryant (Pike), Curtis Bryant (Bud), and Theodore Pritchett Jr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Daisy Bryant, siblings Rutha, Lillie, Jessie, and Inez, and grandson Bruce. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be tremendously missed.
Funeral services will be held at Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Saturday, August 28, at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Hotel Hill Cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home. Following the burial, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church.
