James Roderick Smith Jr., 68, of Sweet Water died Aug. 21, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary.
He was born Dec. 13, 1941 in Nanafalia. He was a member of Sweet Water Baptist Church. He was a member of the Nanafalia Masonic Lodge #335 F & AM. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a retired millwright.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Smith, Sweet Water; one son, James R. “Boog” (Tammy) Smith III, Sweet Water; two daughters, Jackie Joiner, Northport, Sara Beth Smith, Meridian, Miss.; one brother, Raymond A. Smith, Nanafalia; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Baker, Sydney Thomas, Jacob Joiner, Jackson Joiner, Ryan Langley, Trent Sheffield, Sydney Sheffield.
He was preceded in death by his father, James R. Smith Sr., his mother, Ester Parten Smith and a son, LeeRoy Bryant Smith.
The service was Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at Sweet Water Baptist Church with Revs. Douglas Turner and Tyrone Parten officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Sweet Water. O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.
Active pallbearers were Boog Smith, Jeremy Baker, Herman Huckabee, Donald Ray Huckabee, Bo Huckabee, Ryan Langley, Marshall Parten and Alton Parten.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Barr, Jimmy Tate, Harold Agee, T.J. Kirkham, Jerry Wayne Etheridge, Nolan Atkins, John Wayne Overstreet, Jerry Vice, Roy Garrison Jr. and Leon Glass.
