Frances Olivia Gissendanner, 89, of Leroy died Nov. 2, 2010 at Carrington Place Assisted Living Facility in Satsuma.
She was born January, 1921. She was a native of Natchez, MS. She graduated from Auburn University in 1941 in honors. She served in many capacities in Leroy Baptist Church and active in the community. She was retired from the Alabama Department of Human Resources where she served as a social worker for 22 years. She taught school in Leroy for five years.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Gissendanner, Leroy; two sisters, Doris Chance, Nicki Taylor, both of Selma; one brother, Donald Fore, Loxley; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, O.D. Gissendanner, a son, Pat Gissendanner and a sister, Eloise Chapelle.
Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 4 from 6 until 9 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. The service will be Friday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Pine Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery in Leroy.
