He was a born Aug. 18, 1931 to the late Mary and Claudzell "Vic" Bernard. He was a native of Wallace. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was retired from M.W. Smith Lumber Company in Jackson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Maretha and Sonny, and six siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Louise Bernard, Jackson; six children, Clausell Bernard, Glarin Hadley, James (Johnnie) Bernard, Ida Bernard, Shirley (Ronnie) Starling, all of Jackson, Darrion (Rose) Bernard, Helena; three adopted children, Shameka (Kenneth) Jackson, Floyd Bernard, Genesis Bernard, all of Jackson; 25 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mary Bernard, Gulfport, Miss., Ester Lee Bernard, Earnestine Brown, both of Houston, Texas; a host of nieces, one devoted, Willie Pearl (Melvin) Brown, Mobile; nephews, family members and friends.
The service was Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. Burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.
