She was the daughter of the late Rena and Monroe McKenzie. After serving her country for five years she was dismissed with an honorable discharge from the Untied States Army. She was a barber and bank teller for many years in Chicago, Ill., until retiring in Alabama, where she became a member of the St. Union Missionary Baptist Church in Leroy.
Survivors include three brothers, one devoted, Vernon McKenzie of Bridgeville, Del., Harold Pinckney of Atlanta, Ga. and Billy Palmer of Savannah, Ga.; two cousins, Anna (Jimmy) White of Jackson and Mildred McKenzie of Los Angeles, Calif.; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special friends include Betty Robinson, Nell Ree Davis, Ruby Robinson and Jean of St. Stephens Park.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Sgt. Henry Sanford; four brothers, J.C. McKenzie, Henry Lee McKenzie, Isaac McKenzie, Willie James McKenzie; one sister, Ethel R. McKenzie.
The service was Oct. 20 at St. Union Baptist Church in Leroy with Rev. Richmond Chaney, pastor, as officiating minister. Burial with military honors was in the St. Union Baptist Church Cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directed.
