James Otis Hoffman, 84, of Chatom died Nov. 11, 2010 at a Mobile hospital.
He was born May 18, 1926. He was a member of the Springhill Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Livingston University. He was a member of the Chatom VFW. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea while serving in the United States Navy. He was a teacher at Chatom Middle School with the Washington County Board of Education.
Survivors include his wife, Voncille Hoffman, Chatom; two sons, James O. Hoffman Jr., Phillip Hoffman, both of Chatom; one daughter, Deborah Sloat, Hobson; two brothers, William Hoffman, Chatom, Clyde Hoffman, Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Mary Lewis, Silas, Joanne Fricke, Marshaltown, La.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
  Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 13 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be Nov. 14 at 2 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with Rev. Kenneth Henson officiating. Burial will be in the Chatom Cemetery. An online guest book may be signed at www.lathanfuneralhomes.com.
Active pallbearers will be Gordon Sloat, Jeffery Sloat, Justin Sloat, Ryan Hoffman, Joe Hoffman and Phil Hoffman.
