Saint E. "Mac" McLendon, U.S.A.F. retired, 83, of Jackson died Nov. 20, 2010 at his residence.
He was quite the story-teller and lived an adventurous and interesting life. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1945 delivering war supplies to the military forces in the Pacific and European theaters of operations. He requested to be discharged in Japan and worked as a civilian until 1950. In 1951, he joined the Air Force and served in many countries. His wife and daughter joined him on two assignments in Japan and the Philippines. After 21 years of service he retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant with numerous ribbons, medals and citations. Later in life, he began a second career with Alabama Electric Company and retired in 1989.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Nettie Marks McLendon and his only child, Shirley McLendon Gregory; two grandchildren, Ricky (Darby) Graziano, Portland, Oregon; Lesley (James) Earls, Springfield, Missouri; five great-grandsons, Kyler and twins, Keenan and Conner Graziano, Portland, Oregon, Dorian and Adrien Earls, Springfield, Missouri and many other family members including a sister, Dorothy (Rev. Charles P.) Clarke, Grove Hill.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He will be greatly missed by his two Pekingese "Babies," "Jin-Jin" and "Loo Too," whom he adored.
Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 22 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson. The service will be Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson. Revs. Charles P. Clarke and Mark Dunn will deliver the eulogy. Glenn Patrick will provide the music. Burial will be in Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. Active pallbearers will be Roy Marks, Alfred Marks, Warren Marks, Fred Marks, Michael Marks and Albert Smith.
