Frank Herndon Rivers, 86, of Grove Hill died Nov. 24, 2010 in a Mobile hospital.
He was born Nov. 10, 1924. He was a native of Coffeeville. He was a member of Tompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill where he was a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and served as chairman of the deacons for several years and is now Deacon Emeritus. He was retired from Vanity Fair Mills as Manager of the stock room.
Survivors include his daughter, Kay Rivers (James E.) Paul, Grove Hill; two grandchildren, Julie Paul (Michael) Parmer, Selma, James Andrew (Ellen Allday) Paul, Grove Hill; six great-grandchildren, Faith, Ellen, Mary and Ben Parmer and Emma and James E. Paul III.
The service was Nov. 26 at 11 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson with Dr. Johnny Kendrick, Rev. Don Newton and Larry Dunagan, nephew, officiaitng. Esther Edge was the pianist. Burial was in the Tompkins Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Tompkins Baptist Church Building Fund at 14130 Highway 43, Grove Hill, AL 36451. Active pallbearers were Ward Edge, Thomas Armistead, Keith Newton, Reginald Rivers Jr., Alvin Rivers, Randy Hare and Larry Dunagan. Honorary pallbearers were Ralph Armistead, Maybon Armistead and O.T. Armistead.
