Melvin Raymond Thomas, 74, of Jackson died Nov. 21, 2010 at his residence.

He was born Nov. 26, 1935. He was a member and deacon of Stave Creek Baptist Church. He was a millwright with Boise Paper Mill.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby O. Thomas, Jackson; two sons, Phillip Thomas, James Melvin Thomas; both of Jackson.

The service was Nov. 23 at 2:30 p.m. at Stave Creek Baptist Church with Rev. E.C. Russell officiating. Burial was in the Stave Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Stave Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 685, Jackson, AL 36545. An online guest book may be signed at www.lathanfuneralhomes. com. Active pallbearers were Horace Schultz, Bubba Rikard, Joe DuBose, Howard Jones and James Bayles.
