She was born on Feb. 13, 1932 in McIntosh to the late Mable and Floyd Thomas. At an early age she united with Union Baptist Church in Wagarville and later became a member of Lewis Grove Baptist Church in Wagarville, she served faithfully in the Missionary Society, Senior Choir, Program Committee and wherever needed.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Melvin Norwood Sr., Wagarville; two sons, Melvin Norwood Jr., Wagarville, Rickey Jenkin of Ozark; six daughters, Joyce Norwood, Tracy Norwood, both of Wagarville, Donna McGee, Millry, Jacqueline Fields, Mt. Vernon, Barbara Langston, Saraland, Stella Norwood, Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Ernest (Shirley) Thomas, McIntosh, Ed (Sophia) Thomas, Eight Mile; one sister, Irene ( Tom) Lewis, Malcolm; one sisterin law and brother-in-law, Jackie (Charlie) Kimbrough, Tee (Irene) Norwood, respectively, both of Wagarville; 17 grandchildren, two devoted, Ursula Norwood, Joshua Woodyard; 14 great-grandchildren, one devoted and reared as a daughter, Kimora Jenkin; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, one devoted, Savannah Pogue.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Norwood; one sister and two brothers, Geraldine Thomas, George Thomas and Floyd Thomas Jr.
The service will be Thursday, Dec. 30 at 1 p.m. at the Lewis Grove Baptist Church. Viewing will be from 12 noon until the funeral hour at 1 p.m. Rev. Ceasor Abston, pastor, will be the officiating minister. Burial will be in the Lewis Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Jackson Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
