J.D. Leonard, 87, of Grove Hill died Jan. 5, 2011 at his son's residence.
He was born February 15, 1923 to the parentage of the late Robert and Jessie Steward Leonard. He was a retired mechanic. He was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church where he was superintendent of the Sunday School, and chairman of the deacon board, before his health failed. He was also a member of Utopia Lodge #251. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army.
Survivors include one son, Jesse James Leonard, Grove Hill, his caregiver, and son's companion, Maxcine Pepper, Grove Hill, one daughter-in-law, Willie Mae Leonard, Jackson; four sisters, Viola Hoye and Cassie Massey, both of Biloxi, MS; Carrie Croom, Gulfport, MS, and Inez James, Mobile, AL, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four children, Patricia Portis, Joanne Horn, Rhondell Leonard and Dale Leonard, two brothers, Johnnie Leonard and Melvin Leonard, two sisters, Vessie Lee Wright, and Irene Smith.
