Eunice Dickinson Rodgers, 84, of Whatley died March 10, 2011.
She was born Jan. 12, 1927 to the parentage of the late Gene Dickinson and Louella Hill. She was a homemaker.
She was a life-long member of A.O.H. Church of God, Whatley, where she labored diligently and faithfully for over 55 years. She dedicated herself to every aspect of the Lord’s work, and served intensively alongside her husband to found A.O.H. Church of God in Gainestown.
She was well known throughout the community and abroad. Her faith was unwavering and she was the epitome of what a righteous, spirit-filled person should be. Some people only talk of making a difference, but Mother Rodgers actually made a difference. She was a great inspiration to everyone. Among other admirable traits, Mother Rodgers will be lovingly remembered for her excellent cooking skills which resulted in delicious dishes which, not only her family enjoyed, but others as well. She shared willingly with everyone.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 68 years, Overseer Heary Rodgers, four children: Annie Horn, Whatley, Margaret (Demetrice) Ledbetter, Oakland, Calif., Henry (Bessie) Rodgers, Oakland, Calif., Elsie (Richard) Langston, Fayetteville, Georgia; siblings: Bertha Ezell, Robert (Irene) Hill, all of Whatley, Evorn (Earl J) Chapman, Jamaica, New York, Lee Dorothy Rather, Dover, Delaware, Albert (Helen) Hill, San Francisco, Calif., Tommy Hill, Las Vegas, Nevada, in-laws Katie Brown, Gladys Robinson, Grove Hill, James (Birdie) Rodgers, Whatley, 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry, daughter, Voncille McNair; grandson, Jeffrey Lydell Horn; siblings, Etta Ree Bryant, Maggie Burroughs, Truman (Rosetta) Pendleton and in-laws, Elsie Jackson and Isaiah Rodgers.
The service will be Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Clarke County High School Auditorium in Grove Hill. Viewing from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service. Burial will be in the A.O.H Church of God Cemetery in Whatley.
