He was born Sept.
12, 1937 to the parentage of the late Marion Burroughs and Azylene Bumpers Burroughs. He was affectionately known to family, friends and co-workers as "The Buffalo." Mr. Burroughs retired as a truck driver, an occupation he enjoyed for over 50 years. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Miss Vera Kirksey and to this union four sons were born. Maverick, Marion, Gerald, and Paul.
Survivors include his wife, Vera K. Burroughs, El Paso, Texas; five sons, Maverick (Earnestine) Burroughs, El Paso, Texas, Marion (Linda) Burroughs, Grove Hill, Gerald Warner (Roxanne) Burroughs, Fort Rucker, AL; Paul Sherman Burroughs, Nashville, Tenn.; Fredrick Barnett, Detroit, Mich.; one daughter, Cora B. (Michael) Myers, La- Grange, Georgia; one sister, Bertha McElroy, Mobile; 17 grandchildren, 10 greatgrandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Aaron Burroughs, four brothers, Alfonzo Burroughs, Frank Burroughs, Leroy Burroughs, and Jesse Burroughs, and three sisters, Ruby Mae King, Lena Bell Figuero, and Janie Hawkins.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until the 12 noon service Saturday, April 2 at Mt. Zion #1 Baptist Church in Grove Hill with Rev. Cory Pruitt, Pastor; Elder Wayne Simon, Pentecostal Church of God, Mobile, Eulogist. Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery in Grove Hill.
